Workshop with Choreographers from Pentacle Presents: Philadelphia

Class Description
Learn contemporary dance repertoire and dive into process with Ariel Rivka Dance (NYC/NJ), MILKLEAF (Los Angeles, CA), and Sonia Plumb Dance Company (Hartford, CT) on Saturday, June 17 at the Performance Garage. This two-hour workshop will begin with a gentle anatomical warm up led by Waeli Wang (collaborator and company member with MILKLEAF) referencing various ancestral lineages to integrate breath and energy flow. Amy Ashley and Casie O’Kane (performers with Ariel Rivka Dance) will continue warming up participants with across-the-floor combinations that incorporate balance and flexibility. Sonia Plumb and Robbie Weatherington (of Sonia Plumb Dance Company) will conclude the first half of class with center work that prepares the body for quick movements, floorwork, and jumping. The second hour will be divided into repertory sections where participants learn phrase work from MILKLEAF’s Nostalgia’s Window, ARD’s Microvids, and SPDC’s THE SWARM. Then, join us in the theater at 7pm to see these pieces performed onstage! Or use Friday’s performance as a time to preview the work to be learned in this workshop!

Class is best suited for intermediate to advanced dancers, from upper high school to professional level. Being able to learn choreography will make this class most enjoyable. Knee pads, socks, and layers are suggested but not required.

Cost
Sliding scale of $5-$15. Ticket holders to Pentacle Presents: Philadelphia on Friday or Saturday night at the Performance Garage may participate free of charge (sign up still required).
